Description
We go through all the necessary stages of obtaining an apostille, from the translation of documents to the legalization and application of the apostille.
An apostille is a square stamp (on the side of 9 cm), the same in all member states of the Hague Convention, which applies directly to a legalized document or to its extension. This brand is also called the Hague Apostille, because regardless of the country in which it is applied, it has the following name: Apostille - The Hague Convention of October 5, 1961.
1. What is an apostille translation?
An apostille of a translation that has already been authorized and legalized is a procedure for recognizing the authenticity of documents issued in one country with a view to using them in another country while maintaining confidence in their legality.
2. What translations can be apostille?
In a country that has signed the Hague Convention, only translations of official documents that have already been authorized and legalized and issued by a government body are required, for example:
- legalized copies of documents written in a foreign language
- translation of identity documents: identity card, passport, driver's license
- translations of diplomas, transcripts, medical certificates
- transfers of criminal and tax accounting, invitations to stay abroad, powers of attorney
- any other type of document whose translation can be notarized
For documents whose translation has already been authorized and legalized, it is required in a country that has NOT signed the Hague Convention that excessive legalization is applied.
3. What does an apostille entail?
The first step is to translate and authorize the document in the target language in which it will be used. The translated and certified document is then certified by a notary public.
For documents that have been prepared by the diplomatic or consular corps, documents related to a commercial or customs operation, as well as documents of any type with a private signature, a legalized copy is made so that an apostil procedure is possible.
4. What authorities in Romania apply apostille?
The apostille is applied by the Prefecture Office of the Municipality of Bucharest for documents issued in the municipality of Bucharest or whose owner lives in the municipality of Bucharest.
For documents whose conversion to a new type is not possible at the international level, an apostille is submitted to the State Notary Chamber on a legalized copy of the original document.
The State Notary Chamber may apostil any document issued in Romanian that was previously the subject of a notarial procedure (legalized copy, signature before a notary public, etc.). In this case, the apostille is applied to the original in any number of copies as necessary.
It's important to know! Only documents subject to notarization by a notary in Bucharest can be apostilled to the Bucharest Public Chamber of Notaries.
